"Ikat" fabrics are patterned by dyeing a design on the warp threads (or weft threads or, in a double ikat, both warp and weft threads) before the cloth is woven. This results in slightly streaky irregular designs. There are 3 different Ikats (probably from Guatemala) in the backgrounds and one in the hen.
